>>Toni and I were once denied entry into Canada to teach a class.
>This is sad. But I don't know what justified those actions at that time. Maybe there were good reasons. This case is more delicate to talk about because I don't know all the details here. When was this? Maybe those rules changed.
FWIW, I've come to Toronto to speak at FoxTeach several times (as well as for another Fox conference some years back) and on one of those occasions was given a hassle by the immigration people. I've learned that the right answer to why I'm coming is "for a conference." If they inquire further, I'll say that I'm speaking there, but if they don't ask, I don't tell. <g>
One time when I was coming, I happened to be coming from Albuquerque rather than Philadelphia (it was part of a long road trip) and American Airlines didn't want to let me board the plane because I had neither a passport nor a birth certificate. Since I'd crossed the Canadian border many times before that with just a driver's license, I hadn't anticipated a problem. I had to call my husband, have him get my birth certificate (at that time, I didn't have a passport), make a notarized copy and fax it to me in Chicago where I was changing planes so that American would let me on the plane in Chicago. Since then, of course, I always bring a passport
This is the kind of stuff I thought companies planning conferences might not want to deal with in holding a conference with a primarily US audience in Canada.
