NT4 can't use a FAT32 partition; in order to be able to access the same drives undr both NT and Win9x, you'll need to create the primary partition of the boot drive as a Win9x-compatible FAT16 partition, no larger than 2GB. Both the Win9x and WinNT loaders need to be placed on this partition. In order to share data so that it's available under both Win9x and WinNT, the logical drives in question must be FAT16, or you have to use third-party software to allow NT to read FAT32 partitions, or allow Win9x to access NTFS partitions. You can purchase appropriate software from Winternals; www.winternals.com

This is going to require repartitioning and reformatting the drive, so be prepared to redo your Win98 install as well. The recommended procedure is to install Win98 first to a FAT16 partition, then install NT and use NT's boot manager to manage the boot process.

You might want to consider purchasing third-party software to handle the partitioning and provide multiple OS boot capabilities; PowerQuest's Partition Magic 5.0 handles repartitioning very well, and comes with an advanced boot manager to allow for flexible multiple boot configuration. PM5 may allow you to not have to completely wipe the drive and reinstall everything from scratch.

IAC, realize that any WinApp that needs to be used by both NT and Win9x will have to be installed twice; the two operating systems often use different versions of system DLLs, place them in different locations, and can't share a common registry. There's no provision for NT to read the registry information from Win98 and apply it to the NT registry; there is capability to upgrade Win9x to Win2K and have the upgrade convert the registry data.

You might be better off try to dual-boot Win2K and Win9x; Win2K can handle FAT32 partitions natively.

Win98 should be able to handle Ultra66 drivers without special procedures; it's more likely that the BIOS rather than Win98 is the limiting factor here. Consult the system vendor for details.
