Given that the time to experiment and find out if a solution works is relatively fixed.

Let's see - time to check index of On-Line Help - a couple seconds? Probably can try several different things after reading a detailed description and looking at the nice samples on hand...

Time to log into UT, and search the FAQ - connect time + login time + search engine + read...

...maybe download someone's code that already does something like what you're looking to do and give it a try?

Time to pose question on UT - connect time + login time + create message time + time for someone to bother to read and answer it...which could be anywhere from seconds to days. I could try a whole lot of code in days...

...and no guarentees that the person will be right, or there won't be a typo, or they won't have a clue; if answer doesn't work, start again and wait for someone with a clue to answer it - or for me to say RTFM.

>>>I'm just naive in assuming that other people have to read the docs, too, for me at least, the knowledge doesn't creep in through the keyboard by osmosis...

>Naive? I don't think so. :) All those on the UT that know Ed and think he is naive would you please stand up! < VBG > Perhaps your just frustrated at the waste of time and energy and probably rightly so.

I'm not that naive...

At least anesthetized after having some scar tissue taken out about a week ago...
