I agree with you that many of these guys see nothing but academia, which gives them a distorted view of the world. Nothing beats what you learn at OTJ Tech.
In some instances I'll agree with you, Craig. In others, no. I don't think I'd be anywhere near as efficient with my coding if I hadn't gone back to college and taken the series of programming principles courses. I think, however, that the part of the problem is in following the principles blindly. Knowing when to "break the rules" can only come from good ole OTJ Tech. However, not knowing them at all, I think, is worse.
