I recently did the same thing, moved up to 800x600 as a maximum design area. For most new work I find that's acceptable to clients, and it certainly gives me additional freedom to design more useable forms. Some of my clients still have older workstations using 640x480, though, so I've just got to remember that when doing things for them.
