well - in my case it is more like this ...

1 - subcontract through well-known VFP/MS shop who you used to work for - starting out with good rate and initial fairly long contract - and likelihood of ongoing work

2- work butt off to do a good job

3 - work butt off to learn new skills that are needed by this place and market in general - in my case namely - ASP/VB/VB Script and Data Warehousing

4 - make sure to get name out to everyone you can and pursue if you have even slightest inkling of gap in work schedule

5 - ASAP - save up a couple month's pay - just in case
