That's the problem, I'm looking there and I don't have a month to read it all and try to figure it out. I'm a FoxPro programmer, I really don't have the time or inclination to learn about how every version of Windows ever written works at the lowest levels, or read hundreds of pages full of objects and properties.

How are we supposed to remember/understand all this stuff? When I was writing code back in the 80's I would memorize entire command sets for multiple languages. What I had to know back then pales in comparison to FoxPro alone. And then they throw in Visual Interdev, and you have to know how Windows works, and not just Windows NT, you have to know how it differs from Win9x, then WScript, then VBScript, then WMI, and by the way, re-write your application for the web, so learn HTML, and don't forget to learn everything about SSL so you can use encryption, and then you have to be able to install and configure the Web Server (which one? Personal Web Server or IIS?). And don't forget COM/DCOM, and ActiveX. And then when you finish re-writing your application for the web it won't work in Netscape Navigator.

And the documentation for this stuff is mostly a list of objects, properties and methods, which isn't a heck of a lot of help.

So how is someone supposed to learn all this stuff? And how big a brain does it require?

Sorry, I don't mean to take it out on you personally, I'm just frustrated with launching into a 6 week learning spree every time I need to figure out how to do something that should be fairly simple.

Can you tell I'm having a bad day? :)

>Are you looking at the MSDN - > Platform SDK -> Management Services -> Windows Management Instrumentation. There is a lot of information here to help you get started. All you need is a lot of time to read and attempt. Once you have an understanding of it the sample get you the rest of the way. It is powerful too. I am currently creating a ASP web based system to monitor/maintain the MGM/Mirage network (about 300 Servers and over 2,000 Workstation all over the country), luckily they already have everything in place for the 4,000+ bricks.
