Delphi is a great tool. Many technologists however are rather feeble-minded when it comes to analyzing issues on a business level. Many folks think that better mouse-trap automatically wins. Not so.

We live in a society where marketing rules and just good enough is OK. MS ships software, that in my opinon, is just good enough. Not much of excellence comes out of MS. Apple on the other hand is/was really about quality. Look at a guy like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Of the two, it is clear that Jobs is the real visionary, the real brain. Apple is coming back, thanks to him. The products and software out of Apple are about quality. Allaire is another company that is concerned with craftsmanship. Borland in many ways was. Borland was the single most developer friendly company in the world. Still, they failed.

So with this in mind, this topic is being discussed more on issues of business than technology. From a tech standpoint, it is a no-brainer. Delphi is probably better. Heck, why do you think MS hired the chief architect of Delphi away from Inprise?

>>I recall seeing Delphi at a show about 4 years ago myself. At that time, there were some folks in the Fox camp giving that tool a serious look. Quite frankly, most of us thought Delphi, from a technical standpoint, was superior to Fox. However, there is much more to the equation than technology. Borland was in a mess 4 years ago. Heck, Phillipe Kahn may still have been in charge. If we was not, it was not long after his tenure ended. The company never rebounded. Again, it was about going-concern issues.
