Jason;

I am sorry if I sounded hostile, and did not mean to do so. I understoond your post about MySQL and appreciate your comments.

>>I will go one further - where would the Unix community be without the tax payers of California?

>Do you have any idea where linux development began? I'll give you a hint: NOT IN THE US.

Yes, I know the history of Linex, but if you read my comment I refered to Unix.

>And just because something was developed at a state funded university, that doesn't give the taxpayers any more right to it. Students pay tuition (and taxes), and out of state students pay much more tuition. Does every California citizen have an email account on every state school? How about web space? Can you eat in their dining centers for a reduced rate? Can you sleep in their residence halls?
You are really reaching here, and have lost your grip.

Remember Ashton Tate and dBase?

>>And then we have to add the many contributions of Bell Labs. If you used a telephone in this country in the last forty years you also helped support Unix development. After all, Bell Labs used monies collected from phone users to conduct its many experiments and developments.

>Once again you have no idea what you are talking about. Bell Labs developed UNIX. Linux is not unix.

Again, I am talking about Unix, not Linex.

>Take a deep breath, get your hostility towards the unknown under control, then re-read the thread. I was merely offering help with MySQL.

Your comments are very helpful concerning MYSQL. Just sorry that you did not understand I was commenting about Unix (add B,C, etc.) which were funded with public funds. Do not think that students tuition paid for all costs at UC. It just seems strange how public funds are used to develop something (dBase, etc.) and a company can make a profit off of such development. I hope I have made my point a bit more clear. If not, I would gladly talk off line about this topic. I do not want to have this turn into something ugly.

The concept of Linex is something that I hope serves the world of technology in a positive fashon. It is new, exciting and should have Microsoft's attention.
Once you get your Linex system to work the fun begins! Now what should I do first?

Have a good day.

Tom
