>>Yeah, RV's are the lowest common demonimator. You can get them to work with <<
Do I detect a hint of disparagement there? < g >
Is a multi-lingual diplomat a "lowest common deliminator" compared to a professor of modern English?
Variety is cool. The joy goes out of IT the day the choice goes away.
Interesting thread. I'm away for a bit but when I get back I'll arrange for a big site to test this performance theory with a few 100 machines belting the server. But IMHO it will be a fairly special app where the *tiny* overhead of parsing SQL makes a visible difference, especially if you have to layer VFP code on top to make it work. With respect, do you not think your SCANS and checking for updates may leave you *worse* off in performance if not maintenance?
Plus, if RVs can update just one field out of the 200 in the table because that is the only one updated... how will you do that with SPs?

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
