Jeff;
>>Why are you looking at a client/server solution in this day and age? Why not have an intranet solution using ASP/VB? It will probably need to eventually go in that direction anyway...
Erik;
>IMO- telling someone that they should be designing their app in VB/ASP without knowing details of the requirements is... well, its not really addressing the question.
Right on Erik! If I may add a few comments: The only reason I do web development is because it is what I am paid for. It takes much longer, is very limited in what it can do and it surely is not ready for "Prime Time", regardless of what Microsoft Marketing or anyone else says! Jumping on the web development bandwagon may not be in the best interest of the client. Or it could be people that feel as I do are just a bunch of fools and jerks and do not "understand the big picture".
We have 57 servers and 80 developers, run hundreds of applications using Oracle and SQL Server 7.0. Our job is to build Toyota and General Motors trucks, and cars. Our corporate standard is Visual Interdev and if you want a brain dead development tool just try VI. If you want to be successful you had better understand the clients needs and what tools are available and how to use them in a professional manner. If you are in a corporation you go with the flow or look for a new position.
