>My goal has been to build a consulting company with many developers as I had the "gut feel" that was the direction to go. The articles I have been reading and the responses here confirm my hunch that continuing as an independent developer is not going to work for the long term.
If the client has had a good experience with an independent developer, then independent development has a good future. Some clients may go through a string of weak independents', to finally be presented with one that can deliver. It's amazing to be trusted by a prospect after they have been burned by the ID's that came before. The power of good references and the ability to work with in-house staff may be all that is needed.
