Hi Bruce,

I would disagree a little on the dynamics of what might happen.

I think that the longer this drags on, the more that Democrat moderates are going to disconnect from the Democratic Party. I think the polls indicate that this may already be happening. Right or wrong, in 2 years you'll have a lot of GOP candidates pointing at their Dem opponents and saying "he/she belongs to the party where a president perjored himself and his would-be successor tried to steal an election".

OTOH, how the GOP Congress behaves over the next 2 years may cause GOP moderates to disengage. Ragardless of what the two clowns say about "bringing America together" they have both contributed to the potential radicalization of the parties.

Most Americans don't appreciate people futzing around with elections or the Constitution regardless of affiliation; I think that what *might* happen in '02 is that there is a large "throw the bums out" sentiment and incumbents from both sides of the aisle get tossed out on their ass.

>In a sense, the Repubs are actually nearer to a lose-lose situation, IMO, because they've become so much more worked up about this election. The Dems have less to lose because they don't take it quite as seriously - and because they're already mildly happy with congressional gains, and the prospect of even more gains later. In the catbird seat, they are, at least for a few days.
