>I'm conflicted on the recounts. On one hand, there is a responsibility to vote accurately on the part of the voter. OTOH, if the chad is barely attached and shows a clear intent....what I didn't like is what Broward County did, which was, basically, guessing "intent" or judging the smallest mark. Well, no sh*t that Gore would pick up 400+ votes in Broward with this loose standard.

I voted for Gore so I obviously have no problem with a recount. Everything should be done to obtain an accurate count. As for how to determine an accurate count....

Think of the number of times you but a bill in a coin changer before it finally was accepted. I'd accept the machine re-count on all the votes it accepted. The bill changer analogy to me indicates that the machines will reject votes that a human clearly would accept and the rejected votes should counted manually.

OTOH, I don't think dimpled ballots should be counted unless there are a significant number (I'll accept any definition of significant) of other dimples in the the other elections on the ballot. Several dimples indicate a mechanical problem and I wouldn't quarrel with an attempt to divine intent. A dimple in one spot could just as easily indicate a change of mind and a vote for nobody - I'd say that was more likely considering the number of properly made votes.
