Hi Mike,

>>1) You will need LOTS of diskspace, and not just on the target disk for the installation. More than likely, Setup will require that you do a Windows Components update which may require up to 650MB or so of space on the drive where Windows is installed.

>Probably closer to about 400Mb, from what I've seen. Yes, we're complaining about that. Given the system updates, I don't know that this will change, though.

Installing on Windows 2000 Professional machine, I would get a disk space error showing it needed 624MB, So I cleared 630MB and it still errored out. When I (sniff!) killed Pinball Arcade and had 700MB, it ran fine.

>How are you checking this? My current installation comes in at around 3Gb right now, checking by right-click VS7 folder and Properties.

It's a guesstimate. The Installer showed all components would eat about 3.5 GB and you need some space for other stuff....better safe than sorry.

>>2) If using Windows 2000, make sure that you expand the registry entry space before starting the installation ... I got some messages when installing telling me I should do that.

>Interesting; on a clean (formatted and reinstalled) Windows 2000 box, I get no such messages. The builds I'm using may expand it automagically, though. I'm currently seeing registry size of 15Mb, with a max of 70Mb.

Yeah, well, even though I got the registry warning, everything seemed to install OK as well, so I'm guessing it automatically resized the registry. Now I'm not sure if that was installation sleight-of-hand or Windows is configured that way....I'm not a Win2K guru so I'm not sure.

BTW, I already had VS6 and Office installed so I probably have a pretty packed registry.
