>I was doing an install of Exchange Server the other day and ran into a "required" hotfix for that product. It does not appear to impact on this issue, but you never know; also, who knows what else MS may have slipstreamed into this hotfix. It installs as a "Windows 2000 Pre-SP2 Hotfix" and appears to be uninstallable from Add/Remove Programs if you need to do so.

I am looking forward to the next service pack.
I have seen the problem referred to for S.M.A.R.T drives, don't know when it happened but certainly after Service Pack 1 for W2K, my machines hardly ever reboot, but the last time it took for ever but eventually made it, looks like my expensive Seagate SCSI is one of the smart ones ??
The first one seems to only refer to Exchange and Commerce Servers but not to W2K Pro.
