Why was it a big mistake? I've had good results with it on systems with 64MB or more, it boots faster with machines running recent BIOSes, and aside from the changes you'd expect where the system doesn't initialize DOS and then launch Windows, which affects real-mode configuration items likes the change to PerVMFiles in [386Enh] rather than a Files= in CONFIG.SYS, it's behaved pretty well for me, and the enhanced system diagnostic and self-healing features definitely are a welcome improvement.
