Joe
Thanks for the advice re Psion.
As for VB; well, MS's tools for the WindowsCE are eVB and ADO!!!!!!
>>I guess the Handspring Visor intrigues me most. How far are they from having a hardware voice recorder or hardware handwriting recognition unit? If someone makes these things in hardware, they will be fast and robust, and your problem is that much closer to solved. I suppose the cost may go up a bit...is that a big issue?<<
You can already get dictation addons for both Palm and Handspring though the Palm examples are completely separate from the Palm and cannot be synchnonised. As for handwriting, there is a commercial PalmOS product that apparently works well (I haven't looked at it).
FWIW I have asked the chaps to obtain and test a Psion. Might as well be complete! I'll let you know what they come up with...

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
