a) I think that it is this (the fox engine) that somehow is what MS dislikes most. Why? Could be that it allows us to implement whole (small) projects without even pushing a DBMS down the throat of our customers. Sometimes I think that they do not have the sources ... :) They forgot to ask them to Dr Fulton, or they have it, but they are in such a state ...

b) I also think that it is not the xBase even enhanced with somewhat OO that will keep it alive! Someboddy in this thread said that VFP progammers are counted by the 100000, whereas VB programmers are by the millions! They could have hooked (sorry Jeff, not trying to plagiate) VB on the DB engine of fox. They've had almost 10 years to do it and they have not.

The sad truth, and it explains most of what is said here in this thread(IMHO), is that it is the database engine that makes VFP a superior product, that the rest has been neglected for other than technical reasons. I read somewhere that MS is sitting on 27 Giga $ that they does not know what to do with (other than keep ailing competitors afloat).

XBase as a dialect will disappear if it does not get the same care as VB, because customers will need their DB intense applications to be compatible with the rest (internet etc.)
