If there are deleted records, a PACK command will remove them and do a reindex.
If no deleted records, a REINDEX command will rebuild all indexes. I've noticed that the CDX file generally gets smaller (sometimes dramatically) after a reindex. Presumably that makes it more efficient.

Of course, you must USE EXCLUSIVE.
