I'm just a newbie to Oracle. I have installed 8.1.6 and everything appeared to go properly. However, I am experiencing problems connecting.

I am logged on to NT as administrator and when from the sqlplus command line I enter ....CONNECT / AS SYSDBA....I receive a ORA-12560 TNS:protocol adapter problem.

I have searched the oracle web site and don't get any definitive corrective action for this error at least in my mind.

Anybody have any ideas as to what direction I can go from here.
