You don't answer his question at all and you are basically telling him to stop pursuing this idea (you could at least say that you are repeating a generally accepted GUI guideline). I agree that users should have control over the colors used in the application but I don't agree they necessarily have to be colors used in the Control Panel. My framework provides a facility that allows the user to customize colors on the value of several control properties (ReadOnly, Disabled, and a custom property); the user can select his own colors or use the O/S colors. I think this is much better than forcing the Control Panel colors onto the user but you may not agree with me... I don't know if Chuck is trying to implement such a facility and I don't care; he deserves a real answer, not something to put him down.

You know, it amazes me how many people assume that a posting is putting someone down. If you want examples of this, look at any number of postings from JVP to me and then look at the number of people that jumped all over John.

As for my posting, there are lots of developers who have no idea there are UI guidelines for Windows applications. There have been many studies that show the benefits of following these guidelines. Personally, it doesn't matter to me if you follow the guidelines or not. However, IMO, you are providing a disservice to your users if you don't follow the guidelines. This means that your application works differently than other Windows applications and requires more training and effort for the user.
