Len,
I have tried to stay out of this thread because I don't involve myself in flame wars and that's what this has turned into. But I just wanted to add my opinion here.

In answer to a previous post, I also fall into the category of being "new". I joined in October 1999 and really starting to post regularly in January 2000. From the start, I felt included. I have never been made to feel stupid or inane by anyone.

I have disagreed on points with various users and those differences of opinion are just that: differences of opinion. An example is the topic that started this thread: UI Guidelines and Circumventing Them (paraphrased).

Craig B. and I have exchanged posts on a couple of occasions concerning this topic. His mantra is that the MS Guidelines state you should not do this. He has stated this on numerous occasions. Too many in the last year alone to count. My comeback is I know the guidelines but there are always times that guidelines just don't cut the mustard so I am going to do it anyway. It is in these posts where I usually state you shouldn't (and I usually quote one of Craig's posts for the reason *s*) and then I post how to do it if I know.

The reason for my little sharing sessions is to say that the reasons have been explained a lot. It gets frustrating to post the same answer time after time with the same reasons. While not as easy for BUTM subscribers, searching is an option. I think someone posted you have to have multiple browsers up and it takes longer but the results are still displayed. People shoud start using the resources available.

The opinions stated above are my own and should in no way be construed as having anything to do with the three letter acronym after my name.

>Again, I essentially agree with what you have said.

>>>Is there a way to change the background color of the fields upon enable/disable? I need to disable all the fields and then enable upon hitting the Add/Edit button. Both the Enabled = .F. and ReadOnly = .T. makes the background too dark to read. I also have a grid that I would have to disable too...

>A reasonable question I thought, but the response was not. No explanation of why it shouldn't be messed with & when someone complained, another "expert" jumped in in defence. On the same day (I think), some one got told off (rightly so) for replying to a "I want to do so & so. Is it possible" type question by simply saying "Yes". The above reply is exactly the same - uninformative.
