Thanks for replying and I agree with much of what you said. Personally I do search through the FAQs (manually of course) before asking. On all forums I frequent, I try to make the best of what is available before asking questions.
But if you are using forums, then you must accept that people will keep asking the same questions. If it's the same person, asking the same question, then maybe you can start cutting short the answer (or not bothering). But if you are going to answer, an informative one is more useful than one that isn't. If you haven't got the time, leave it up to someone else.
In this particular case, the poster was not told that it was against a particular set of guidelines, so did not have the chance to go look & see if he agreed or preferred, in this instance, to go his own way. Then someone else stepped in to defend Craig, on the basis that he was too busy to give a full answer. It's this attitude that gives the impression of a small clique, who wil protect each other whatever, - the "inner sanctum", that excludes newcomers.
If I had given the same answer to the original poster, would I be told that the answer was insufficient, I think I probably would.
