Seriously though,

I believe that VFP should be removed from VS because:

1) Good VFP programmers think outside the box anyhow :)
2) I would hate to see VFP basterdized into a less functional bloatware product for the sake of conformity to non proven MS paradigm.
3) For the same reason a previous thread indicated about VB, people who must relearn everything will probally concentrate on C#
4) One of VFP's strongest point is that is has always had excellent backwards compatibility, this doesn't seem to be a VS priority anymore.
5) If VFP isn't fully integrated into the IDE and CLR, I don't think there will be much marketing advantage in keeping it in VS
6) The VS.Net, IMO may crash and burn. I am not convinced that MS has a good grasp on what tools developers really need for day to day projects, If they did I think they would have promoted VFP much more than they have.
7) Anyhow, if VFP people needed access to specific VS.Net functionality I am certain MS will provide a way to access this through COM or whatever the mechanism of the day is for MS.
8) To me, the whole world is a database, I have worked on NO projects (in 17 years of programming) that were not data driven. Even though it's helpful to be able to pull data off a remote server over the net, I would really hate to loose the power and flexibility of working with the data locally and having data aware components to work with. Even though there is room for improvement, the data access tools now available are adequate.
9) I think it would weaken the VFP community, no other programming group seems as committed to their development product. This was evident from the very first Devcon in Ohio in '89.

I think it is a real shame that MS never really got behind VFP. They have done an adequate job of moving it forward since taking it over from Fox Software, but not an enthusiastic, aggressive job; which is what I feel it deserves! I suggest an even bolder step if MS doesn't wat to keep it moving forward as an independent product, spin off a small company to develop and promote VFP independant of MS!
