We couldn't use the PDF writer in our app, because one of the requirements was to be able to concatenate several reports into one PDF output file, and had to use the Distiller. Version 3.0 was a pig to work with, being a standalone EXE which we had to shell with all kinds of problems with space in directory paths (command line interface). 4.0 now has a COM object which is a little more developer-friendly, but getting every customer to buy the Adobe product was a real hassle, and quite frankly, just didn't happen. We are going to move to the Amyuni PDF generator and include the PDF output functionality in our finished product.
