>Mike is correct that wwIPStuff allows you to send e-mail without having a mail client installed. You only need to have access to an SMTP server. One disadvantage, however, is that there is no record of what you sent out. I solved this problem by creating a mail log within my app that stores any outgoing mail, along with the status--i.e. whether it was successful, and the error message if it wasn't.
Barbara,
How do you know if it was successful?
Once SMTP server picks it up, it doesn't necessarily mean the mail was successfully sent. There could have been a problem with the DNS lookup on the person's e-mail domain in which case it wouldn't leave your SMTP server. There could have been a problem with the e-mail address in which case it may actually go to the other domain and be returned later with errors.
I'm curious. Do you have something that monitors an error account and parse new e-mails coming into that?
