I have not had this same scenario, but I'll shoot from the hip. :)

I think that you probably did not un-check the option to save the data with the report, located under the File menu option. This way, it appears that the report works because it is using the data that is embedded in the report.

Your problem is probably related to malconfigured ODBC settings. Go to the Control Panels, under Administrative Tools, and verify that they are setup properly.
