This is off-topic.

I can not even have a zip program (WinZip, Pkware, or whatever) on my computer (at work). The "reason" I got from my supervisor was there aren't enough license for all of us to have it installed on our PCs. I am strongly doubting that. I think it just my supervisor wanting to give me a hard time (been working here for about 4 years).

I like to ask HOW would I KNOW if we are following this "license laws"? For one, I go to another person's PC in my dept and they would have a zip program installed. I open it up and then Exit to see if any "This program is not registered. Do you want to sign up now?" (and some buttons like "Internet", "No, later"). Would that be the target that we aren't following the licensing protocol? I don't want to take this issue to the bigger boss and then find myself in trouble.

I am working in the University of Wisconsin, so they are state-owned and if I find something wrong, the state would support my position on any wrongly found issues. The reason I am doing this is because I am feeling that my supervisor is giving me a hard time. She even denied my request to change my status to the next up position (Intermediate to Senior).

Furthermore, I emailed to her with this question, (my quote) "Can I bring my zip program from home and have Dave install it on my computer. The zip program I have at home already is licenced for me (I bought it directly from the company)." (my unquote). She replied, (her quote) "SW installed on UWM computers should be owned by UWM" (her unquote). Well, maybe that is true, but we have TONS of GAMES (very graphical evil games, I might as well add) and being played at their "overtime" paying hours.

What you suggest? I want to make sure I know what I am doing regarding if we are exactly following the licensing protocols of the mere zip program.

Chuck
