FYI: This doesn't help the F1 problem but it did solve my problem. Thanks to a suggestion from a friend I tried calling hh.exe followed by the path and name of the help file. For example, c:\winnt\hh.exe c:\help\helpfile.chm. Works great.

Also, I don't think NT has anything to do with it. My OS is NT 4.0 and help works fine on my machine--F1 and all.

Actually yesterday I was told that the problem was Citrix related and not NT as you pointed out. It seems to be to way that Citrix handles the keystroke buffering. The same way that if your trying to open the command window in VFP on Citrix with CTRL+F2 it does'nt work.

I wonder if in the config.fpw we can say something like

ON KEY LABEL F1 c:\winnt\hh.exe c:\help\helpfile.chm. (not correct syntax)

Or is it impossible to override to F1 function. Maybe use F12?
