I think, the new design is great, but I would not give up the old way too. It has advantages and I'd like to be free to choose, how I want to access static content. I liked old interface through left panel and IMO, which should remain unchanged.

The new additions are fine, but untill they are proven, we don't want to lost old friendly interface.

Just my opinion.
