As an addendum, I forgot to mention that we experience this problem whether we use MS' Oracle drivers (from MDAC 2.6) or Oracles. Our Oracle version is 8.1.7 (8i). Who knows whether this is relevant information, but I figured that someone might ask (tech support did).
