You're right. (15th century)

Vlad

>Bram Stoker's starting point for his Dracula book was the (16th century?) Romanian nobleman, Vlad the impaler. I'm pretty sure that guy really existed, and really did stick people on spikes after battles, but all of that has little to do with what went on in Dracula. Often history is more gnarly than fiction. :)

>>Yeah, I know... I just hoped you wouldn't mention HIS name. :) Every time I enter in a chat room, in the next 3 minutes somebody asks me if I'm the real Dracula... :) I just hate chat rooms! :)

>>>Hey, the way *I* learned it, the original model was a Transylvanian, Count Vlad (a relation?) Dracula. Of course it was all in a book by an Englishman, so what did HE know? Published just 100 years ago, in 1897, too. Wonder if he ever left England?

>>>>BTW, Dracula has nothing to do with Transylvania. And Romania has nothing to do with vampires. They are not at all present in our legends, myths, folklore... The only logical conclusion is that they (all of them) emmigrated to Canada so long ago that nobody remembers them! :))
