We had to reduce the config.sys files= to 60 and increase the FILE HANDLES= option in net.cfg to 120. (our tip came from Pat Adams error file).

So the situation is actually that you're running FPD under DOS using a Microsoft DOS client to talk to a W2K box, presumably some sort of server, where shared files live.

Bear in mind, your program is still running on the DOS box; in that case the settings on the W2K box have no impact. You would need to set the FILES= appropriately in CONFIG.SYS on your DOS box.

The MS DOS clients tend to be large; in order to leave sufficient conventional memory to run FPD well you'll need to get creative with HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.EXE.
