>If I have a multiuser workstation application, with native VFP data on an NT server. I access the files using drive mapping. This has proven to be very distructive to my files and database due to lock ups. What are the pros and cons of accessing the data using remote access to the VFP files using VFP ODBC for access. Is the performance comparable and does this offer more reliable data storage? What do I give up with this approach?

These days you should not be getting lockups. If you are there are problems with the network or workstations that need to be fixed. On a good network with good hardware you should not have trouble with data corruption. We have many customers using our software, and seldom have data problems that weren't caused by programming errors. VFP ODBC uses the same access as VFP does, and it as likely if not more likely to cause problems if you have lockups. A couple of things, make sure you have a good quality server, and second make sure you have good network cards and good cabling. If your getting lockups all the time, its not likely your network would handle something like SQL Server. BTW, is it the workstations of the server that is locking up?
