Hi Bill,

>>>>>I guess my setups must be pretty easy...As I've never had a problem with it.
>>>
>>>Yes...We do create a program group with our program and help file in it. I guess I don't understand. Like I said my installs must just be simple. Where do you have problems? Or has this been hashed over and I missed it?
>>
>>He's just razzing you, Bill. The Setup Wizard is a 16 bit application (shown in hte PM - Program Manager designation for Start Menu groups and items). It uses DDE to communicate with the Program Manager window (which is invisible under Win32). It's also the reason it can't create a desktop shortcut itself.

>Yeah, John likes to do that. But there's usually something to it. As for the desktop shortcut, I HATE it when applications create those (without asking, of course) As if, just because I want to run the application, I want it in my face all day! (whew, I guess Vent got set on and I didn't notice <g>)

Well, he wouldn't be everybody's favorite Gonz if he didn't< g,d&rfjk >.

I agree that an setup application should ask. However, creating a shortcut without my asking isn't at the top of my list of peeves about "beligerant software". I think right near the top are those applications that, once you run them, insist being loaded into the System Tray on startup without asking or giving you any control over whether or not they do. AIM (AOL Instant Messaging, which my son uses) is like that. The only way to prevent them from doing so, and still having access to the software is to remove the registry entry that causes them to load. I got so annoyed by AIM that I wrote a KillAIM.vbs script to squash it after it had been run. Geez...I guess my VENT got set to ON too.:-)

>BTW, I don't remember hearing, are you coming down to Orlando? I'd like to meet you face to face someday and even buy you a nice tall dark beer!

I'm not going to Orlando (at least not at this point). It'd be a pleasure to meet and "knock back" one or two. We'll do it some other time, I'm sure.
George
