Hi Daniel,

What do you mean by "everything in code" and lack of persistent relationships? This may be good or bad, depending. He might not be taking you for a ride, he might be doing the job the way it should be done.

Anyhow, besides Marks suggestion on good books and where to get them, I would suggest that you avail yourself of the hundreds of sample programs here in the Files section, at VFUG.ORG, and at the Wiki -- amongst other places.

Figure out what aspect of VFP you want to learn more about. Figure out by reading posts whose opinions you respect the most and download some code. Study it and learn how it's being done. Don't be afraid to ask questions of the authors; most welcome questions on their submissions - I know I do.

>I am working on learning VFP and OOP, but I need to learn the Xbase programming syntax. I understand databases, the database container, linking, referential integrity, tables, indexes, and the sheer power available in VFP. Currently my boss hired a consultant who has no idea how our business works, does almost EVERYTHING in code, and doesn't use any type of persistent relationships. I've talked with a few personnel who are familiar with VFP and we all agree the guy
>is basically taking us for a ride, he's heavily programming himself into our DB and unless I learn VFP and quickly sever the ties, we are going to find ourselves needing high level maintenance from a high level programmer, which would be find, but the size of our DB is relatively small compared with what VFP can handle. Now the question is, what can get books/manuals can should I get to bring me up to speed? I'm in the process of taking a CIS course at Coleman College, so I understand Hungarian notation, and have written my own custom functions in VBA for Excel (all self taught). Any Suggestions?
