Do you by any chance have Visual FoxPro installed on a drive other than the boot drive? On one of our machines we had Visual Studio installed on Drive D, instead of the usual drive C. On this machine, we got the same error when trying to install SP 5. The end result was taht we reinstalled Vusual studio (again on Drive D), then ran the service pack setup program and it installed just fine. I am not all that sure, but it may be a transient registry change that may have been made after installing other applications after the original install. One of them was the upgrade to Office 2000.
I cannot be sure in your case, but that is what I would try to do, is to reinstall the visual studio componets that you use, and then immediately apply the service pack 5. There is a strong chance that the service pack will install properly.

If you have your original Vstudio6 installed on the boot drive, then maybe all of this will not work, but at any rate a reinstallation of VS6 and then the service pack should work for you.

>I have SP6 of NT installed, I also have MDAC 2.5 installed. The error message states incorrectly that there is no Visual Studio Applications found! I'm trying to understand why it thinks there are no VS6 applications installed when I can run them all. I had just done SP4 about a month ago. This is a new built NT 4.0 workstation that I was setting up to be my developemnt machine. All my apps run fine, I can re-compile/build and all that works great. This SP5 issue has me stumped.

>>>I'm running NT 4.0 workstation. I have Visual Studio 6 installed. When trying to run the Service Pack 5 update it informs me that set didn't detect any Visual Studio 6 products on my system, the service pack will not be installed.
>>>Has anyone else seen this? I can run all the Visual Studio 6 applications just fine. I figure it must be some kind of registry problem.

>>Visual Studio 6 SP5 requires that the NT worktation have NT4.0 SP5 or better installed. I believe the current service pack status is 6a as of this writing.. Visual Studio 6 SP5 also requires the prior installation of the MDAC_type upgrade 2.5 or later as well. Both of these upgrades must be installed before VS6SP5 install is attempted or it will not install sucessfully.
