>>Let's not forget that even with a 1.75 ghz machine, the app isn't getting all of that clock speed, only a fraction of it. ... Add to that whatever drivers and so on that are also running, well, I think you get the idea.

>Yeah, true, but I'm gonna hope that in a couple years out hardware advances a little bit, and our languages get more powerful because of it. Look how fast IntelliSense in VFP7 is?

>How long do you think it will be before the stock computers that you buy from Best Buy are gonna have multiple 2gHz processors and a half gb RAM?
We'll probably see a 2ghz processor within 2 years. Multiple ones on the same system board within 3-4. Of course, this assumes that the progression we've seen in the past continues. Of course, the size of the apps seems to be increasing at the same rate.< g > Of course, if that 2 ghz is a P4, given it's current problems, it won't make much difference.:-)
One thing that I've noticed doesn't happen anymore is that the software never really gets to the point where it takes fully advantage of the clock speed. Afterall, who, any longer, goes into compiled code and optimizes it into machine code? Used to be commonplace, especially with operating systems.
