David, you ae a genius.

The _startup system variable WAS INDEED set to my config.fpw file.
Which as you said was runing it again as a program.

That was the problem, I have spent hours and hours trying every
concieveable combination of commands and kept getting IN-CONSISTANT
results. Talk about going crazy.

I replaced the value of _startup to my own setup program and it seems to
work great. I'll play with this a bit more and let you know it anything else
rears it's ulgy head.

Also, thanks for teaching me what those file locations were about in the
tools/options diaglog. I had wondered about those, but never had time
to read up on them.
