>I do NOT think that you are going to have success populating those other forums by forcing people in (their) "regular" forums to go to those other forums. After all, my interest and expertise (what there is of it) is VFP (in my case) and it is in that forum that I want to be. When I have a Windows or Office or Excel problem it is probably indirectly related to my VFP work in some way. The people in the VFP forum "know" me and my 'style' of questioning (i.e. thy know I leave out certain things but have learned to assume correctly) and I "know" the relative accuracy of the answerers replies.

>As I have said before, leaving the message where it was posted, along with a gentle reminder that there is a specific forum that might produce a better/quicker reply, is a more appropriate approach in my humble opinion.

>Perhaps, even, you could simply leave the message where it was posted but also AUTOMATICALLY post it in the more appropriate forum too. That way the member can have the benefit of both forums. I note that replies are already handled correctly for this idea - my "Replies" and "Private" buttons are already (and most appropriately) "shared" across any forum.

Yes, of course, replies are accessible from anywhere. This is why we show the forum column in that section.

That's also why I said we usually wait a full day before moving a thread, technical ones I should say. I can force that in the MovingThread() function to make sure a technical thread can't be moved if DATETIME() is not a day greather than the posting date. Applicable in VFP forum only I should also say.

As for populating other forums, we also have to show the example. If you look at other forum content, a good percentage of the traffic is done by people who have VFP as their default forum. If we don't show the example, other new members will leave right away as they won't see any traffic in their forums. We work hard on populating other forums. We don't ask that much. All we ask is to post in the most appropriate forum.

We need your help for this, please consider all posting in the most appropriate forum when it does not relate to your default forum. It's not a question of where there is more traffic. It's a question of content integrity. I can also add that it could be a question of following rules. That part is also very important. It takes time to thing, create and make the rules respected. By posting in a not most appropriate forum, it takes more time of our day to maintain the content integrity of the Universal Thread while we could be working on something more productive. This means time and money. I have 2.5 men/months on the Universal Thread. I wish we could exclude that task from our list but we just can't as we still have too many people that either are not aware of other forums or they know but don't take the time to post in the most appropriate forum.

BTW, it's not that I want to talk about it but we didn't have to handle any "sensitive" situation since that. This helps a lot. I remember before whenever the content was kept as is, lots of people were complaining online to post in the most appropriate forums, mostly related to Chatter and also sometimes on other messages. Just by complaining, sometimes, it was creating sensitive situations. We responded by creating new features such as thread filtering, twit filtering and moving threads. So far, it has been a good success.

Yes, we agree that some people in VFP forum may know the answer to such a question. However, most of those users also have other forums checked and most of them are working virtual. So, whenever you post, no matter where it is, they will mostly see it right away in the next refresh. See also that the number of individual accesses per day keep increasing in other forums. So, even when we move, most of the times, the thread will grow.
