Michel,

As you probably know, I generally agree with Alex on this issue.

In my case it has always involved only the CHATTER forum, and as you can see from the source of this message, **I am learning to go there more often** < s >.

But Alex's case is a much more serious one, as he has clearly detailed.

I do NOT think that you are going to have success populating those other forums by forcing people in (their) "regular" forums to go to those other forums. After all, my interest and expertise (what there is of it) is VFP (in my case) and it is in that forum that I want to be. When I have a Windows or Office or Excel problem it is probably indirectly related to my VFP work in some way. The people in the VFP forum "know" me and my 'style' of questioning (i.e. thy know I leave out certain things but have learned to assume correctly) and I "know" the relative accuracy of the answerers replies.

I am likely asking a question that someone in the forum (VFP in my case) can answer and I think it is critical to let there be a CHANCE for that to happen.

As I have said before, leaving the message where it was posted, along with a gentle reminder that there is a specific forum that might produce a better/quicker reply, is a more appropriate approach in my humble opinion.

Perhaps, even, you could simply leave the message where it was posted but also AUTOMATICALLY post it in the more appropriate forum too. That way the member can have the benefit of both forums. I note that replies are already handled correctly for this idea - my "Replies" and "Private" buttons are already (and most appropriately) "shared" across any forum.
>>Hi,

>>I recently posted a thread in the vfp forum regarding a windows problem I had.
>>
>>Before the day was over, I got a few replies, but then the thread was moved to the windows forum.
>>
>>While I agree that the message belongs in the windows forum, moving it there literally killed it. Most UT users are in the VFP forum and like myself, seldom venture into the other areas.
>>
>>I think there should be a way to alert users in other forums about users who need help in other areas. If I had any specific ideas I would mention them, but unfortunately I don't.
>>
>>If someone can think of something please post it.
>>
>>After my experience, and in order to stay within the rules, the next time I have a windows problem I'm likely to go to other forums with more trafic and likelyhood of help than to post in the windows forum of the UT, and that's really not good for our community, but I don't see what else I can do when I need a hand with something unrelated to vfp.

>Threads are being moved in their appropriate forums since months now. It has been announced, archived and part of the rules. When that happens, we usually allow a full day before moving it, if the thread has been initially posted in VFP forum. So, as it has more traffic, it allows the flexibility of receiving a minimum amount of replies before the move. But, we have to do it. That's how it is.

>Dozens of threads are moved months after months. When such an action is taken, users involved in the thread are notified by email and by private messages. Rarely we receive comments in such an action. However, we do appreciate when we have some.

>I don't know what you mean by alerting users.
