Well this is not directly on target but here goes. I use a PDF print driver from Zeon/DocuComm http://www.pdfwizard.com. It's only $50 per copy instead of Adobe's $250. Using calls to the writer's 'ini' file I have been abel to use it as a way to email reports directly out of my VFP6 (I don't know about VFP5's ability to do it) applications. Our company is very happy with it. I don't know if the character issue for you is solved with it but if you go to the web site you can down load a demo & try it.

Like I said not directly on target but worth a try.

My initial reaction to your stated problem feels like a character set problem. I believe somewhere I saw that character fonts can have multiple character sets but I could be way wrong! Just a hunch though and besides nobody else seems to be trying on this one.
It is impossible to make programs idiot proof. Idiots are too cleaver.
