In addition to what Doug said, when VFP3 was released, it had an unmotivated Product Manager. Marketing was non-existant. MS publically admitted when VFP5 was released that they screwed up Fox marketing and were making it right. That's when they brought in Robert Green and David Lazar and they have made a big difference.
The other reason is at the same time, the Gartner Group said that FoxPro was dead.
