Sorry, you said you had Adobe PDF writer so I assumed you paid $250 for it and was making an alternative suggestion. So the free package prints the characters correctly and Adobe's doesn't? Interesting. Have you reported this problem to Adobe?

I will give your ctrlp a try myself. I am probably going to distribute more than 10 copies (that is what we bought of the other one) in the future and this could save us some $$.

Using calls to the writer's 'ini' file I have been abel to use it as a way to email reports directly out of my VFP6 (I don't know about VFP5's ability to do it) applications. Our company is very happy with it. I don't know if the character issue for you is solved with it but if you go to the web site you can down load a demo & try it.
