The points system is only as good as the effort people put into making it work.
My guess is that it is a tad too hidden for many people and still unknown by another bunch.
Overall I think it will be a very useful thing. Not at all for "ranking" people/contributions but mainly for getting the answer more quickly when reviewing history.
In this case it sounds like it was a local issue. Many are also embarrassed when they find their own problem and it is a "stupid" error.
There was a guy here until recently (messages have tailed off, thank goodness) who was having UT members write his entire program for him by asking one question at a time. In *his* case the points system was next to useless, but then on searching for answers his were so basic as to likely be obvious non-candidates in the first place.
