J Crescencio
Not one to brag but I suspect I've taken or commissioned as much of a look at various tools as anyone else here.
The assessment is that if one were starting a new project, VB would not be a good choice.
Probably VFP would not be either and for much the same reason, but the fact is that our company has heaps of existing, working, profitable product in VFP and there is a visible path forward that allows us to be productive.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
