One of the more encouraging signs at DevCon was the number of first time attendees. During the keynote speech, the first-timers were an overwhelming majority of the audience.
Tamar Granor put a different spin on this statistic when, during her talk "Using SQL-Select Effectively in VFP 5", she asked how many people started using FoxPro with version 5.0. Out of a perhaps 250 people, less than 10 people raised their hands! When she asked how many first-timers the majority of the croud raised ther hand.
I wonder what's happening here. Is the improved US economy enabling more of (the remaining??) FoxPro developers to attend DevCon? Or is there a larger group of people who are going to convert their 2.6 app(s) and wanted to attend DevCon before taking the plunge? I guess we'll never know, but it is a strange statistic, don't you think?
