I've also experienced similar behaviour before but found that it was not consistent. I was also using an Intellimouse but I don't recall if it was specific to that mouse. It was also Serial at the time. A simple click on or off the scroll bar (can't remember which now) will stop the scrolling. This isn't the actual Autoscroll feature but more like a scroll bug.
On a slightly different note, I have a PS/2 Intellimouse now and occasionally it will move by itself! :-D It will start creeping along the screen in whatever direction, it will go back and forth or just one waybut always in a straight line. It'll stop when I move the mouse.

Are you experiencing anything like that? [I too have this only on a Win98 SE, more or less up-to-date, PC]. 2 others, WinME and Win2K are fine.

>I opened a 90 page Word97 document, placed the pointer on the down-arrowed scroll button down the right side and held it for 6-8 seconds. It acted as I would have expected and as soon as I lifted my finger scrolling stopped.
