Try wwIPStuff class from http://www.west-wind.com and use the ASYNCH transfer. With Asynch transfer, you can display to your users how many bytes have been downloaded so they can see the transfer is still working.

I use this for our FTP transfers and it works great. However, I have not downloaded a file of that size.
